ABOUT
‘BFC in the Community’ is Bengaluru Football Club’s social responsibility program which aims at reciprocating the support that the club receives from the communities in and around Bangalore. The program includes community soccer clinics, social programs, awareness campaigns, etc. The presence of the local communities is felt in the stadium on match-days and in the club’s youth teams and the ‘BFC in the Community’ initiative was put in place with the sole intention of giving back to the community.
Headed by Richard Hood, who is a UEFA ‘A’ license and AFC ‘A’ license holder, the club conducts community coaching clinics at local grounds where four of the club’s youth team coaches run the children through different training drills. The club provides the children with all the equipment, including footballs, cones, markers and even goalposts, necessary for the event. The outreach programs make less privileged children from local communities go through basic dribbling, passing and 1 v 1 drills which lead to a small sided game where players apply the skills they have worked on. The fun evenings end with a quiz session and the club often donates footballs and jerseys to the localities in a bid to get more children to be involved with the sport and the club.
Conducted on two Sundays every month, the ‘BFC in the Community’ Outreach Programs serve as a platform to identify talented players who are invited to trial with the Youth Development Program’s elite squads.
