Bekey Strikes As Blue Colts Make It Two Wins On The Trot In National Group Stage At The BFS
Bengaluru: A second half charge from Bengaluru FC’s reserves saw them post a convincing 2-0 win against Sreenidi Deccan FC in a National Group Stage encounter of the RF Development League, at the Bangalore Football Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Tuesday. The Blue Colts rode on Bekey Oram’s strike (65’) and an own goal from Deepak (71’) to pick up three points and continue their surge for a spot in the knockout rounds.
The Blue Colts’ starting eleven, named by Head Coach Kaizad Ambapardiwala, featured only one change from the game against LIFFA Trivandrum on Saturday, as Shighil NS replaced the injured Amay Morajkar in the lineup.
Both teams had plenty of attempts but the two goalkeepers were left untested for large parts of the first half. At the half hour mark, the home side had their first chance of the fixture from a Damaitphang Lyngdoh volley which flew narrowly wide. Just before the break, Shighil very nearly opened the scoring, as his curling attempt from the edge of the box following a corner routine hit the side netting.
Into the second period, the Blue Colts had another great opportunity when Kamalesh found himself up against Deccan ’keeper Mohammad Arbaz, but the winger could not get his effort past the shot-stopper. A minute later, action reverted to the other side when Sharon sprang off his line to deny Dharaneshwar Reddy, after the winger got in behind the Bengaluru backline and threatened to put the visitors in the lead.
Eventually, Bengaluru’s attacking efforts bore fruit as Bekey put the home side ahead in the 65th minute. The midfielder set Satendra Singh through with a well-timed through ball, and the forward’s attempted shot ricocheted off Arbaz and into the path of Bekey who placed his shot into the empty net.
Ambapardiwala’s side doubled their lead minutes later, as a corner from Lyngdoh saw Arbaz spill the ball which was eventually turned into their own net by defender Deepak in an attempted clearance. .
Bengaluru face FC Goa in their next game at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Friday.
