“I can see the team playing better, we need to build on this”

Interim Coach Naushad Moosa Spoke About His Side’s Draw Against NorthEast United, Positives From The Game, Performances Of The Youngsters And More…

On stopping the run of defeats…

This one point should help us. We have to take all the positives we can. It was tough after giving away an easy goal. We did create a lot of chances and from here, it is very important to keep my players motivated so that they do not feel low. Now we have an eight day break to work on the mistakes we are making. We were a lot more compact and will analyse the game to be best prepared for the Kerala match.

On conceding another easy goal…

It was a mistake, there was uneven bounce which he could not control. It was a silly goal to concede, but these things happen. The way we conceded the goal was unexpected and it was not intended, but we responded well.

On the team’s performance…

I am happy with the way the team was playing, with the response they gave. We kept the ball better, moved it around well. They put in a lot of effort, were creating chances and moving the ball around. From the second half of the game against East Bengal to the whole match against NorthEast, I can see the team playing better and being more compact. We had a good game. At the end of the day, there is no individual who likes to lose, not me and not my players.

On his half time team talk…

I didn’t have to say much at half time. We knew we had to work on the opportunities we were getting. Focus more on the wing play and keep the ball better. We were giving away the ball too easily in the first half. My instructions were just to control the ball and pass it around better.

On the performances of the youngsters…

Parag [Shrivas] did really well in the first half and NorthEast adjusted to deal with him, blocking the spaces where he could overlap. The way Leon [Augustine] played, he was on fire. He wanted to prove himself and that is something we are looking for in our youngsters. Amay [Morajkar] did well too when he came on.

On the Blues’ attack…

I think the attack is creating a lot of chances. They are doing well and giving it their 100%. The effort was from the entire team. I saw the whole team trying to win the ball back and everyone was motivated to get the result. We will be looking to build on this.
