Blues appoint Julen Esnaola as goalkeeping coach

Spaniard Replaces Javi Pinillos, Who Assumes Role As Assistant Coach

Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC, on Thursday, announced the appointment of Julen Esnaola as the club’s goalkeeping coach. The 37-year-old Spaniard replaces Javi Pinillos, who has taken up the post of Assistant Coach to Carles Cuadrat in the Blues’ dugout.

As a player, Esnaola represented Real Sociedad, Real Union Club de Irun, Linares CF and Jerez CF among other clubs, before taking up the post of goalkeeper coach at Real Irun in 2013. During his four seasons at Irun, Esnaola was also part of the coaching staff for several age group teams of the Basque Country.

Esnaola’s most recent club commitment came at Tercera División side SD Beasain, and the Spaniard said he was excited at the prospect of joining the Blues. “I’m very happy to join a team that has a winning mentality and I want to be able to contribute to the good work that has been done so far this season. I have been watching some videos to understand the game and I hope to adapt soon and be of use to the squad ahead of an important part of the season,” Esnaola said.

The Blues take on Hyderabad FC in their penultimate home game of the League stages of the 2019-20 ISL season, at the Kanteerava Stadium tonight.
