Akashdeep, Lyngdoh Strike In 2-0 Win As Blue Colts Are Back To Winning Ways
Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC secured a convincing 2-0 win over Stadium FC in a seventh-round Hero Elite League encounter at the Benagluru Football Stadium, on Saturday. A goal in each half from striker Akashdeep Singh (39’) and playmaker Damaitphang Lyngdoh (68’) saw the Blue Colts get back to winning ways after a draw in the last round.
The win was Bengaluru FC’s sixth of the campaign and took their tally to 19 points from seven games, extending their unbeaten run and maintaining their spot atop the standings in the Chennai-Bengaluru group.
Coming off a goalless draw against Chennaiyin FC in the last game, the Colts began with intent and created chances from the get-go. Striker Akashdeep Singh was a constant presence in and around the rival box and eventually scored the first goal in the final ten minutes of the half.
A well-worked move, saw Fredy Chawngthansanga lob a pass to defender Jagdeep Singh on the left in the box, who took a touch before squaring it to Akashdeep and the striker made no mistake with his side-foot finish past Stadium FC ’keeper Nikhil Deka.
Bengaluru FC controlled the majority of the proceedings in the second half and continued to push forward. The visitors, meanwhile, were restricted to handful of attacks given some good defensive work by the Bengaluru backline.
The Colts finally got their second goal in the 68th minute with luck going their way. A cut back from the right by Jagdeep was blocked by Nikhil in the rival goal but his failure to hold on to the ball saw it bounce on to Akashdeep. The striker’s header came off the near post but the ball stayed in play rolling towards the far post where Lyngdoh doubled the lead with an easy tap-in.
The hosts almost made it 3-0 when defender L. Johnson Singh ran free down the left. His powerful effort was saved by the rival custodian who managed to palm it onto the crossbar.
Bengaluru FC now travel to Sriperumbudur where they will take on Raman Vijayan Soccer Schools on January 24th.
