We were trying to be the first team to score: Cuadrat

The Boss Assesses The Blues’ First Loss On the Road This Season…

On his tactical assessment of the game…

First of all, congratulations to ATK. I think it was a good game of football and a nice one to watch. As a coach you have to take decisions. We set out the way we did, because it was working well for us against their two strikers, where it was their two against our three. Rahul had some problems, but he has been playing as a left back many times, so we were hoping that it was going to work.
I talk a lot with my players and I talked to Juanan, Albert and Rahul as well. We decide to keep the same position, but unfortunately, there was a goal against us. So, it was in that moment that I tried different things after the goal. I tried to change positions, and the system. We played 4-3-3 and then 4-4-2. As a coach you have to try all the things that you have in your hands to get the result. But it was that kind of game where the team which scores first has a lot of advantage, because then you (as a trailing team) have to attack more, and that creates a lot of space for a counter attack. So that’s it, we were trying to be the first team to score but it was not possible for us.

On David Williams’ decisive goal…

Everybody is trying to do their job in the best way that they can. I think that ATK’s two strikers (Krishna and Williams) had a good game. They are brilliant players. So, in the end, it has been a skill of one of their top players that made the difference tonight.

On the different formation that the Blues played in…

Every game has a different story, you know. I think we controlled ATK very well. They played three days ago, so it was a question to wait for the right moment of the game to get the goal. If you assess the last twenty minutes of the first half, you can see that it was completely our game. So the plan was working well. At half time, I told my players that in the first ten minutes of the second half, they will be pushing us. But after that, they will go down, so we have to be really paying attention and not concede in that time, but they scored early on.

On Augusto’s performance and the lack of service to Chhetri…

Every player has a different moment in the season, and if you see he wasn’t part of our squad in the last game against NorthEast. He was coming back and that’s why I substituted him because he didn’t have the rhythm that the other players had.
