Naushad Moosa’s Blue Colts To Face ASC In Opener At BFS
Bengaluru: Reigning champions Bengaluru FC will kick off their campaign in the 2019-20 edition of the prestigious BDFA Super Division League against Army Service Corps at the Bengaluru Football Stadium, on Wednesday.
The Blues Colts who won their first-ever Super Division title convincingly in 2018-19 will be up for a bigger challenge this time around given the packed schedule. The squad which comprises mostly of U18 players will also be participating in the Elite League which kicks off the following week alongside the Super Division.
“This year our team is made up mostly of players who have graduated from the U15 side last year, and although they are quite young, we have a few experienced players which brings in a good mix. Being the defending champions is a big thing because we worked really hard for it last year, but it’s a clean slate now. We can’t afford to be complacent at all, and have to give our best in both the competitions as we expect a tough challenge,” said Blues Head of Youth Development Naushad Moosa.
The league which kicked off on November 2 has a total of fourteen teams with each side facing every other team in a round-robin format. This means the Blues Colts will play 13 games over the course of two months and Moosa reckons this will only be beneficial for their development.
“Playing Durand cup helped reserve team players get competitive games at a higher level, when we were still in our pre-season. Our U18 boys played a couple of friendlies in Kolkata and also played the Vedanta Youth Cup. Since they comprise majority of the team, they have got some really good exposure. As BFC B, we played 28 competitive games last season and although this season will be hectic, we are getting more games and that means more playing time for the team which directly helps their development,” added Moosa.
All games in the Super Division will be played at the Bengaluru Football Stadium, with kick offs slated at 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm.
