Vedanta Youth Cup: Bengaluru FC U18 off to a winning start

Akashdeep, Gunendro, Ronik Strike As Blue Colts Down RFYC 3-0

Goa: Bengaluru FC U18s began their campaign in the Vedanta Youth Cup with a well-deserved 3-0 win over Reliance Foundation Young Champs at the SESA Football Academy Ground in Sirsaim, Goa on Monday.

Second half goals from strikers Akashdeep Singh (57’), Ngangom Gunendro (61’) and Ronik Singh (67’) ensured that Naushad Moosa’s boys claimed all three points from their first game in the season.

After soaking pressure for majority of the first half in this early kick-off, the Blue Colts settled in and began dominating play in the second period. It took them twelve minutes to break the deadlock after resumption, when Akashdeep scored with a delightful chip over the rival ’keeper. Midfielders Fredy Chawngthansanga and Damaitphang Lyngdoh played a quick give and go on the right before the former chipped the ball to Akashdeep who then finished it from inside the box.

Moosa’s boys doubled their lead four minutes later as Akashdeep turned provider setting up Gunendro with a perfect through ball from the right. The youngster took a touch before rounding off the rival custodian and scoring from close.

Six minutes later, Bengaluru FC made it 3-0 when Ronik tapped home from close range after Gunendro’s initial attempt from the edge of the box from Lyngdoh’s setup was saved by the ’keeper. Ronik found himself in the right place at the right time and made no mistake with the finish to seal a comfortable win.

The Blue Colts now play hosts SESA Football Academy in the second game on Wednesday.
