Bengaluru FC B gear up to face MEG in Puttaiah Cup final

Naushad Moosa’s Blue Colts Aim To Win First Piece Of Silverware

Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC reserves will be up against familiar foes when they take on Madras Engineering Group (MEG) in the big final of the 2018 Puttaiah Memorial Cup at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Sunday. The Blue Colts who have faced the Services’ side a few times in pre-season, will look to reclaim the title for Bengaluru, who last won the competition in 2014-15.

While the Blue Colts romped to the final after a 5-0 demolition of South United FC in the semifinal on Wednesday, MEG overcame fellow Army-side ASC in the penalty shootout a day earlier to book their spot in the showpiece game.

Naushad Moosa, who has guided the youngsters to the final in their first official competition of the season, said he is wary of the threat MEG poses and wants his team to be on their toes.

“We have played MEG in pre-season friendlies a few times and found them to be good. Their team has seen a lot of changes since then because it was a transition phase. They have got in a few new recruits who are technically good. So it’s not going to be easy for us tomorrow. They have played some really good games in the competition to reach to the final. We have to be on guard and can’t take them lightly,” said Moosa on the eve of the clash.

On the challenge of facing a familiar opponent, Moosa wants his team to be focused on the task at hand and not get complacent. “Although we have played against them in the pre-season, tomorrow will be a different ball game. We’re both playing for a trophy and it’s very important for our players to stay focused and approach this match as though we’re facing the opponent for the first time.”

The Blue Colts are boosted by the return of playmaker Altamash Sayed after he missed the semifinals due to a suspension while defender Asheer Akhtar makes a comeback from injury. Bidyananda Singh will be the only one missing from action after he picked up a serious injury in the final group stage clash.

The game kicks off at 3.00 pm at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
