Now is the time to keep improving: Roca

Coach Albert Roca Refused To Make Much Of A Third Straight Win As He Spoke to The Club Website About The Need To Outdo Previous Performances With Each Game. Excerpts…

Thoughts on the win against Mumbai….

It is very important to win all our games, if we wish to maintain our top spot in the table. We are still far off from the final product that I would like to see, but it will take time. Mumbai were a lot braver that the previous two opponents we played, as they were tried to press our defense and force them to make errors. But we were able to adjust our game and make use of the space well.

We will look to adjust to the opponent faster. We have a lot of players and everyone needs to play, a few new introductions were made to the squad due to rotation. Overall, I am very happy with the performance and result, but there are still some things to fix and work to be done.

On Khabra and Udanta’s partnership….

Khabra and Udanta have been great this game and were excellent in the last two games as well. When they made their first appearance together against Shillong Lajong, and took some time get familiar with each other. But since then, with every minute they have grown and improved. There are definitely more players in the squad who will be able to play in those positions, and as we go forward in the League, I’ll look to give others a chance.

On the performance of CK Vineeth…

We are extremely happy that Vineeth scored the goals. He has been working hard in training and deserves this hat-trick. I’m glad all the hard work has paid off. We have many other strikers in the squad like Daniel, Len and Norales, and it is their job also to share the goal scoring duties. Very soon I am sure that even they will pitch in with the goals.

On finding the perfect competition….

Every manager is on a quest to find the perfect team, but that is a continuous process and usually never happens. We have a big squad and competition for places is high. But we have only played three games and now is the time when we will go on to face some of the tougher teams in away games and our only objective to keep performing well.

Importance of away results….

It is always a tough challenge when you play away. You lose a day because of travel and the players are a little tired. But it is very important to overcome this and perform well when on the road. I don’t want the players to think that everything is won with the results from these three games. We have more difficult opponents to face and we have to try our best to maintain our momentum away from home.

Thoughts on the upcoming fixture against East Bengal…

I do not want to pay attention to anything other than my own team’s performance. My main objective is to improve with every game we play and to ensure our performance is better compared to our previous games. If we improve and fix all those areas we believe needs fixing, we will be better. Now is the time to foster good partnerships and improve in areas we believe we can better.
