Assistant Coach Carles Cuadrat Spoke After The Blues’ 2-0 Win Over Abahani Limited In The AFC Cup
On the performance of the team…
I’m very happy that we have got three more points, that’s nine points in three games so far. We’ve done well in this competition. I have to admit it was a very tough game, as until we scored the second goal, we had to ensure we prevented any threats of a counter attack or an equaliser. We did create a lot of chances and there were occasions when we should have scored a lot more than we did, but I’m happy with the three points and a clean sheet.
On what has changed in BFC that helped return to winning ways…
It has been a long season and there are a lot of things that happened during the last few months. In football sometimes everything goes in your favour and sometimes you are plain unlucky. There have been many games where we were in a very good position but due to an unfortunate error we dropped points. But things are working well and the team is confident. In the last four games we have not conceded any goals and created a lot of chances, we have to build up from here, look to finish our chances and continue with our good defensive set-up.
On his assessment of the Blues’ finishing…
Finishing has been a problem for us throughout the season. We have been very unfortunate in front of goal. We’ve created a lot of chances, but we are unable to finish. When your players score once and become confident, they will score again. So for the upcoming games, we will continue to create as many chances but more importantly, will look to finish all of them.
On the importance of scoring from set-pieces…
Set-pieces have been an important part of our team’s attacking threat. We know that every set-piece can give us an opportunity to score goals. If we are unable to create chances in front of the goal, we must use opportunities like these to score. If you noticed, five of our last six goals have come from set-pieces. Today we were unfortunate no to score (through a set-piece) but I’m sure we will I the coming games.
