We need to fight for the three points: Roca

Coach Albert Roca Spoke About The Need To Be Aggressive Ahead Of The Clash Against Bagan. Excerpts…

On the back to back games against Bagan and importance of competition…

It’s going to be a tough game against Mohun Bagan. They are a really good side and we know they have come here to fight for the three points. It is up to us to put up a good fight against them and ensure we win.

Our focus is in the next game and we know that if we play well, create more chances and score goals we will win. We cannot expect to win just because we are Bengaluru FC, we have to go out and fight for our three points.

On whether Bengaluru still can hope to defend their title…

I do not want to think about the title, my focus is on our next game and that is Mohun Bagan. Our duty is to play well and give our supporters a good show and to pick up all three points. I think we have to be a bit more aggressive in the box and capitalise on all our chances so that we score more goals.

In the last few games that we played, we have been creating a lot of chances and troubling opponents defence, but what we have lacked is finishing and that is what we need to improve on as quickly as possible.

Impact of a packed schedule on BFC…

I don’t think any coach would appreciate a schedule that has fixtures too close to each other. It isn’t normal for a league to have four games in a span of ten days. This is something I have not experienced anywhere else in my career. All the clubs are facing a similar situation and that is something the Federation should look at closely and try to fix in the future.

On defensive errors and whether injures are the reason…

Mistakes are made by every team; we have unfortunately been punished severely when we made our mistakes. But if you noticed the last two games, we have not given our opponents too many chances. Our attack has been creating a lot of chances in every game and we have to ensure that they are put away.

On Marjan Jugovic and his playing time…

Marjan is a very good striker and has proved in his career that he can score a lot of goals. But asking a new player to come in a fit in the team immediately is something we cannot expect from anyone. We have to give him time to acclimatize and build good chemistry with the team. With the break coming up now, it would give the team sufficient time to get used to our new player and would also give time to him to get into his peak fitness and help the team in our future games.
