It feels good to have scored the winning goal. We created many chances and thankfully we put a few of them away. It always gives confidence when your team is a goal down and you equalize. When Sandesh’s goal hit the net, the morale of the whole team changed and we were much more confident. We started tackling better, shooting better and kept the ball at our feet well. I had said that it was very important to create chances and to convert them and that’s what we did.
On beating League rivals Mohun Bagan in the AFC Cup…
I’m very happy to have beaten Mohun Bagan in the AFC cup. It’s always good to start a new competition with a win. We haven’t had the best of runs in the I-League, which is unusual for us and it helps the morale of the team. What was important is that we came back from a goal down and won the game, which shows how motivated we are.
I must repeat what I said earlier; we might have lost a few games but one thing is for sure, there will never be a lack of motivation in our team, we will keep fighting and keep going on.

I like to believe that I’m a specialist in going over the wall with my free-kicks, and until the last moment that was the plan. Somewhere in the middle of my run-up I saw that the keeper was going away from the post so I decided to place it rather than use power and thankfully it went in.

The win obviously helps, but as I have said before, it wasn’t that we weren’t playing well; there have not been many games where we have been dominated by the opposition. We’ve played well, created chances but we have conceded goals we shouldn’t have and we’ve missed far too many chances that we should have put away. There isn’t a moment of panic in the team.

I have to say we have the best fans in the country. When we were one goal down, they chanted louder than before, it’s unbelievable. For coach to say that he has never seen such incredible fans, even after his time in Barcelona and being at so many clubs, is massive. These fans are special to this club and we cannot thank them enough for their support.
