Coach Roca Spoke To Us About The Blues’ Game Against East Bengal.
On what went wrong in the game…
Things are very dynamic in games like these. We were expected to go all out right from the first whistle, but the first half did not go well for us. I think we lacked confidence, and that is mainly due to the past results. It’s not always easy playing against an experienced team.
We played better in the second half as we played with the urge to get back into the game, the second goal was what killed us. The team fought till the final whistle and it was what I expected of them. I feel bad for the fans as they came in large numbers expecting a victory. I apologise to all of them because they have shown their support in every game and backed the team irrespective of the situation.
On playing with three defenders…
I have to take responsibility for playing with three defenders, as the change didn’t help us and we conceded early. We converted to a back four as soon as the first goal was scored. Sometimes tactics might not be the only reason why a team might have a difficult game. I felt my team wasn’t confident enough to win the game and it’s a shame, because we worked the whole week and constantly tried to change things for the better.
We have had four draws in the last four games and this was a game we had to win, East Bengal however, have punished us in the worst moment, a time when the team was looking to go up in the table.
On whether BFC can challenge for the title…
There is no point talking about titles when we are so far. My intention is to fight and not give up in every game that we play and finish in the best position that is possible. We have to take one step at a time and concentrate on every game individually.
The only thing that I would like to say to the fans is that we will not surrender and we will go into the next game and try to win. We had many chances where we could have done better to finish and that is something we need to take a closer look at. The fans deserve to see better from us and we will ensure we will fight to the very end for them.
