Young Blues begin Junior League final round with win over Dempo SC

Alfred, Lalthangliana Score As Ajay Chorge’s Side Claim 2-0 Victory In Opening Fixture

Early goals from Alfred Lalroutsang and Lalthangliana gave Bengaluru FC a 2-0 win over Dempo SC in their opening fixture of the Hero Junior League final rounds, at the Barrackpore Stadium, in Kolkata, on Tuesday. Strikes in the 6th and 13th minute were enough for Ajay Chorge’s men who began their Group D opener in convincing fashion.

It was a set-piece that handed BFC the opener, as Bekey Oram swung in a corner that Alfred connected with to leave Dempo ‘keeper Glen Fernandes stranded. Just seven minutes later, Bekey was the creator once again as he dribbled past two Dempo defenders before cutting it back to Lalthangliana, who tapped home with ease to double the advantage. Bengaluru continued to dominate the proceedings, and saw the game through to the break with the two-goal advantage.

Searching for a third goal in the final 45 minutes of play, Bengaluru pressed forward and almost found it in the opening exchanges of the second half. Alfred’s cross into the box was headed on target by Lalhmunmawia, but Fernandes was equal to the effort as he saved. Bekey’s effort on the rebound was found wanting as it sailed wayward of the target.

Tackling the heat in Kolkata, Chorge sent on Louis Macarton Nickson and closed the game out, with the Bengaluru backline holding fort to thwart away Dempo’s rare forays into the box. The Young Blues will next face Iron Born FC, in their second Group D clash at the YBK Training Ground, on Thursday, May 23rd.
