Vinith, Gautam On Target As Blue Colts Secure Passage With A Game To Spare
Rajan Mani’s BFC U13s side made their way into the semifinal of the Hero Sub Junior League with their second win on the trot, this time against Parappur FC in Group B, at the Don Bosco Ground, in Margao, on Wednesday. The 2-0 victory, aided by goals on either side of the break from Vinith Venkatesh and skipper Gautam Rajesh.
Starting on the offense, it was a set-piece that gave the Blue Colts the lead, just shy of the half hour mark. Rohit Negi’s free-kick from the right flank was nodded home with a diving header from Vinith that found its way past Parappur ‘keeper Astrin Thomas to claim an advantage that they would protect until the break.
Heading into the second period, Parappur did well to hold the Blue Colts’ advances, only for a second free-kick from a similar position helping Mani’s side double the lead. Negi, once again with the left-footed in swinger, sent in a delivery that Gautam headed home past a hapless Astrin.
“I’m really pleased with the way the players have performed over the last two games. We practiced our set-pieces a lot in the days leading up to the final rounds and they paid off. Three of the five goals we have scored have been from set-pieces and I’m proud of how these boys have carried the work from the training pitch to the field. It’s important that we carry this momentum forward into the semifinals,” said Rajan Mani.
The BFC U13s will face J&K State FA in their final Group B clash of the Hero Sub Junior League, on 17th May at the same venue.
