Edmund, Myron, Altamash On Target As Naushad Moosa’s Side Proceeds To Semifinal
Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC sealed their spot in the semifinal of the Puttaiah Memorial Cup after a dominant 3-1 win over FC Bengaluru United in their final Zone-D game at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Monday.
Goals from Edmund Lalrindika (45+2’), Myron Mendes (83’) and Altamash Sayed (89’) handed the Blue Colts, comprising players from BFC B, all three points in their final Zone-D encounter, taking their tally to six points.
The Blue Colts began on the offensive and had the first chance of the game in the 8th minute when Edmund went down under pressure from FCBU defender Ashik inside the box, as referee Sugandhan pointed to the spot. The striker stepped up, but was denied by Abhinav in the FCBU goal, who dived to his left to make the save.
Bengaluru continued pressing high and finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, as Edmund made amends, slotting home a threaded pass from Lalengzama Vangchhia.
FCBU pushed forward for the equalizer in an end-to-end second half, but the goals came in the final ten minutes of regulation time. Myron Mendes doubled the Blue Colts’ advantage from the spot after Ashik was adjudged to have brought down Edmund in the box.
Kavirajan (88’) pulled one back for the opponents six minutes later, smashing home a rebound after Aditya Patra had done well to keep out Aravind’s effort from the left. But any hopes of an FCBU comeback was squashed when Altamash made his way into the box and placed one past the reach of a diving Abhinav to make it 3-1.
The Blues Colts will now face the winners of Zone-B in the second semifinal on Wednesday, October 10.
